I'm confused about something

When did JMU stop participating in DI football? I ask because their national championship trophy says their were the NCAA DI Football National Champion for that season.

As far as ODU goes, it may not matter which DI football subdivision they participate in because their is no female sport equivalent for football regardless if the school offers 63 or 85 scholarships. As far as JMU goes, the school has made multiple cuts to its men's programs over the years in order to remain Title IX compliant and keep its head above water. JMU's last big cut was back in 2006. It should be noted that JMU cut 1 female sport since 2006 because JMU's current numbers are 6 men's programs and 11 women's programs.
